What if.....just what if you are absolutely wrong?...you know...about everything...life...love....faith....what if? Any thoughts?
...from a conversation between Carl Sagan and the Dali Lama:
Sagan asked the Dalai Lama about his beliefs in God and what he as a Buddhist would do if a discovery in science conflicted with Buddhist doctrine. The Dalai Lama replied that... "If through thorough investigation things become clear, only then is it time to accept and believe," he said.
So in other words, although the pen is mightier than the sword, the pencil is mightier than the pen. One has to change.
I don't ever absolutely believe anything except that everything changes, in time.
Roy has made a particularly astute point. I don't expect any one who finds strength and comfort in their beliefs would ever be affected by say the news that intelligent aliens exist. Sure, there will probably be panic of a sort, and a few will have some sort of crisis of faith. But I don't think this would be the majority.
Goes hand in hand with my cliche - the only constant in life is change.
